Screenshot from screen-sharing of an attendee’s screen: based on the features visible in the image, could this be a Teams version from before 2024 (i.e. 2023)? I have received mixed answers; if you have relevant release documentation, it would be helpful. Thanks Screenshot 2026-08-28 at 2.32.45 PM.png

Based on the screenshot alone, I do not believe it is possible to determine the exact Teams release year with confidence.

The visible controls (such as Annotate, Chat, People, Raise, React, View, Notes, and Apps) are features that have existed across multiple Teams releases. In particular, the Annotate feature was introduced and rolled out during 2023, so its presence does not by itself indicate that the client was running a pre-2024 version.

The overall layout appears consistent with the newer Teams meeting and sharing experience, but Microsoft has updated Teams meeting controls incrementally over time, and similar-looking toolbars may appear in different builds.

Therefore, I would not recommend using this screenshot as evidence that the attendee was running a specific Teams version (such as 2023).

To identify the version more accurately, the Teams client build number (Settings > About Teams) or device logs would be required.

If you have any additional evidence available, such as higher-resolution screenshots, screenshots showing more of the Teams interface, or information about the client build/version, please let me know. I will be happy to review it and provide a more detailed assessment.

After reviewing the additional screenshot, I still cannot confidently determine the exact Teams release year based on the UI alone. If this screenshot and PDF are the only information available, then unfortunately I am unable to provide a definitive answer regarding the Teams version. A reliable determination would typically require additional evidence, such as:

The Teams version/build number from the affected device

Logs or diagnostic information from the device where the screenshot was captured

Without that information, any conclusion would be speculative rather than evidence-based.

Thank you for this, some developers said that notes loop was available for attendees in 2024. could the 2023 be ruled out?

Thank you for the additional information. Based on the available Microsoft announcements, I would be cautious about ruling out 2023 solely because a Notes button is visible. Loop-powered Collaborative Notes were already announced in Public Preview/Targeted Release during 2023, and meeting attendees could collaborate on notes during meetings. Microsoft later expanded the experience in 2024, but the presence of the Notes feature alone does not appear to conclusively prove that the screenshot must be from 2024 or later.

Additionally, based on the comments under the 2023 announcement, some users reported that the feature was not yet available in their tenants or that they experienced differences in behavior. This suggests that availability may have varied depending on factors such as rollout stage, release ring, tenant configuration, or environment. Therefore, it is possible that different organizations gained access to Collaborative Notes at different times, making it difficult to use this feature alone as a reliable indicator of the Teams release year.

For that reason, I do not believe the presence of Loop Notes is sufficient evidence to definitively rule out 2023. I hope this information helps.
