Excel Online functionality of Office Script buttons on protected sheets

Experiencing a problem with Office Script buttons in Excel Online. Previously, these buttons worked correctly on protected sheets, but now they only function when the sheet is unprotected. This change has disrupted my workflow, as I need to unprotect the sheet to run the scripts.

I am seeking guidance on if there are plans to address it in future updates.

Im having the same problem with my sheet. After removing the protection, it started working corretly again.

Thank you for reporting this. I tried to reproduce it on my side and I am seeing the same behavior, so this does not appear to be specific to your workbook or tenant. Unfortunately, as a forum moderator, I am not able to confirm product roadmap plans or whether a fix is scheduled for a future update. My role here is limited to general guidance and to passing issues along through the right channels.

Since this looks like a change in behaviour rather than a configuration problem, the most effective thing you can do is report it through Help > Feedback > Report a problem in Excel for the web. That routes directly to the engineering team and helps establish how widely it is affecting users.

It is also worth having your admin raise a support case from the Microsoft 365 admin center so it is formally logged against your tenant: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin. I will leave this thread open in case anyone else can add to it, as there are currently a few similar reports about script buttons in Excel for the web.
