Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.

Look for Microsoft 365, click on the three dots. Choose Modify, then choose Online Repair.

If Online Repair doesn't help, uninstall it.

    Restart the computer.

    Then reinstall.

    Please go to https://www.office.com

Sign into the Microsoft account you used for the subscription. Click on the 9-dot icon on the upper left > More apps.

Then on the upper right, click on "Install apps". This will now download the installer file. Once downloaded, click on the file to install. It will install the Desktop version of the apps for you then.

    Try this in order:

    1. Restart the device Wait a few minutes, restart Windows, sign back in, and try opening Word, Excel, or PowerPoint again.
    2. Run an Office repair from Windows Since Repair Now from the app did not fix it, run the full repair from Windows settings:
      • Right-click Start
      • Select Installed apps (Windows 11) or Apps and Features (Windows 10)
      • Select Microsoft 365 or Office
      • Select Modify
      • If prompted, choose:
        • Online Repair > Repair for Click-to-run installs
        • Repair > Continue for MSI-based installs
Note: This repairs the entire Office suite, not just one app.
    3. Test in Safe Mode to check add-ins If the apps still fail to open, start them in Safe Mode:
      • Press Windows key + R
      • Run one of these commands:
        • winword /safe
        • excel /safe
        • powerpnt /safe
If the app opens in Safe Mode:
      • Go to File > Options > Add-Ins
      • In Manage, select the app add-ins or COM Add-ins, then select Go
      • Clear one add-in, select OK, then restart the app normally
      • Repeat until the problematic add-in is identified
If the app does not open in Safe Mode, the issue is not likely caused by add-ins. In that case, repair Office again or uninstall and reinstall it.
    4. If files themselves are damaged If Office opens but a specific Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file does not, try:
      • File > Open > Browse
      • Select the file
      • Select the arrow next to Open
      • Select Open and Repair
    5. If double-clicking files opens the wrong app or fails Repair the Office installation first. If needed, manually reset the file association in:
      • Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs
      • Under Set a default for a file type or link type, choose the correct Office app for the file type

If multiple Office versions are installed, uninstall the versions that are not needed, because that can cause files to open incorrectly.
