My company name was the name of a group of developers. That was not a real company and should not have been entered.
How can I remove it.

    Hi Charles,

Changing your company/organization name involves two main areas within the Microsoft 365 admin center: billing account/sold-to address.

(Please note that if you are a user you will need to ask your global administrator to perform these steps)

To changing billing profile company name (Sold-To address)

The company name linked to your billing and legal agreements, known as the Sold-To address, is handled differently depending on your agreement type. This address includes your legal company name.

    1. Update the 'doing Business as' name (Sold-To address)
      • If your billing account is managed under a Microsoft Online Services Agreement (MOSA) or Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA), you can update the Doing business as name and other address details:
      • Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
      • In the navigation menu, go to Billing > Billing accounts.
      • Select the relevant billing account.
      • On the billing account details page, in the Sold to section, select Update sold to or Edit.
      • Update the Doing business as name (optional field) and other organizational information, then select Save.  User's image
    2. Changing the Legal Company Name (Sold-To Name)

Crucially, if you need to change the primary Sold-To legal name itself, especially under a Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA) billing account type, you will require assistance from Microsoft Support.

    • You must contact Microsoft Support directly from the Microsoft 365 admin centerto process a change to the Sold-To name.
    • You may need to complete a form and be ready to share supporting legal documentation, such as a government-issued document or registration letter that clearly shows the name change while the entity remains the same. Requests for Sold-To name changes often require a credit check.

For comprehensive, detailed steps regarding your billing account, please refer to the official Microsoft documentation:

I recommend starting by updating your organization display name and the "Doing business as" name. If the full legal Sold-To name requires amendment, please proceed with contacting Microsoft Support as described above.

Please let me know if you have any other questions regarding this process.
