Hello Microsoft Support Team,
We would like to report an issue regarding Microsoft Teams Desktop Client.
Users attempting to sign in with Personal Microsoft Accounts (including Outlook.com accounts and Gmail-based Microsoft Accounts) receive the following message:
"Personal accounts aren't supported yet in Teams (preview). To use your personal account, open Teams on the web."
The same accounts were previously working successfully in the Teams Desktop Client. The issue was first observed on 04-Aug-2026.
Troubleshooting actions already performed:
- Cleared Teams cache
- Uninstalled and reinstalled Teams
- Tested on multiple PCs
- Tested with different Windows profiles
- Tested with multiple Personal Microsoft Accounts
- Verified that Teams Web works successfully with the same accounts
The issue appears to be limited to the Desktop Client, while access through Teams Web remains functional.
Could you please confirm:
- Whether this is a known issue or product limitation.
- Whether support for Personal Microsoft Accounts has changed in recent Teams Desktop versions.
- Whether this behavior is expected or considered a product defect.
- If there is a workaround or a fix currently available.
A screenshot of the error message is attached for reference.
Thank you for your assistance.
Kind regards,
