Feature request: Native “Accounting Period Lock” for selected cells/ranges

I work with Excel for financial reporting, and one feature that would be really helpful is the ability to lock specific cells or ranges after an accounting period is closed.

For example, after we finish the March financial report, we could mark the March data as Closed. Excel would then prevent users from accidentally changing those numbers, while still allowing them to edit the rest of the workbook.

This would probably only be useful for a small group of Finance and Accounting users, but it could help prevent accidental changes to finalized financial data.
