How to get back the details of the chat

Hello,

I accidently erased the chat I had with someone on Teams. As it is very importaint to me to get back the history of that chat I would please ask you for the help if it's possible to get it back and how do I do that?

    If this was a 1:1 chat in Microsoft Teams Free, there is currently no supported way to restore the full deleted chat back into Teams.

    What is still possible:

    1. The other person still keeps the chat history on their side. Deleting a one-on-one chat removes it only from the local chat list.
    2. The other person is not notified that the chat was deleted.
    3. If a new chat is started with that person, a new chat appears without the previous conversation history on the deleted side, while the other person still sees the complete earlier history.
    4. Any files, messages, and links previously shared can still remain accessible to the other person. Shared files can require separate permission changes if access needs to be removed.

    Best recovery options:

    • Ask the other participant to share the conversation content with screenshots or copied text.
    • If the important content was in shared files, check whether those files are still available in Teams, OneDrive, or SharePoint.

    You can try restoring it from Teams chat history first. If the chat was only hidden or deleted from your view, search for the person's name in Teams and open the chat again.

    If the chat was permanently deleted, it usually cannot be recovered by the user. Teams chat messages are stored in Microsoft 365, and recovery depends on your organization’s retention policy. You can check with your Teams administrator to see if a retention or eDiscovery recovery is available.

    If this is a personal Teams account and the chat was deleted, unfortunately there may be no way to restore the chat history.

    This is for Teams personal account, right? If so, when you deleted the chat, it should have this pop up

    Basically once deleted, it is deleted from all of your devices, signing out and in will not recover it. It is also deleted from the data you could export as well.

    The only way to get it is from the other person, as the chat will not be deleted on their end.
