Adjusting alert preferences for messages, mentions, and activity within Microsoft Teams
If Microsoft Teams mobile keeps showing notifications when there is nothing new, two supported causes are documented:
- Incorrect badge count on iPhone This is a known issue under investigation. Teams can show an incorrect notification count on the iOS app badge even when there are no unread messages. The desktop Teams app can still show the correct unread count.
- Too many mobile notifications while active elsewhere Teams mobile notifications are on by default even when active on Teams desktop or web. That can make the phone keep alerting unnecessarily.
Try these settings in the Teams mobile app:
- Tap the profile picture in the top left.
- Tap Notifications.
- Under Block notifications:
- Turn on When active on other devices to stop mobile notifications while active on Teams desktop or web.
- Adjust When in meetings if notifications during calls or meetings are the main problem.
- Turn off In-app notifications if alerts inside the app are also contributing.
- If only some alerts are configured oddly, in Notifications select All activity to reset to the full standard notification set.
If the problem is specifically that the badge count is wrong on iPhone, that is listed as a known issue rather than a user setting problem.
If the false notifications continue, send a report from the mobile app:
- Profile picture > Settings > Help and feedback > Send feedback
