Clipchamp Audio Recording Stuttering and Playing at Increased Speed

Over the past couple of weeks, we have experienced an issue with Clipchamp when recording audio only.

This has occurred with two different teams, using two different laptops, on two separate occasions. In both cases, the audio recording initially appears to record normally, but the final recording contains noticeable gaps/stuttering and sounds sped up, approximately 1.25x normal speed.

It sounds as though Clipchamp is missing small portions of the audio during the recording and then stitching the remaining sections together, resulting in the stuttering/accelerated playback.

We have never experienced this issue previously, and it only appears to have started within the past couple of weeks.

Troubleshooting/observations:

  • Audio-only recording in Clipchamp
  • Occurred on two separate laptops
  • Involved two different teams
  • Occurred on two separate occasions
  • Final audio is stuttering and noticeably sped up
  • Issue appears to be caused by missing/omitted portions of the recording
  • No similar issues were experienced previously

I can't figure out the cause or how to avoid it.

    Hello Ghislain Erenati

I understand how disruptive this is, particularly since the same audio distortion has occurred on two separate laptops.

Please first confirm that the audio clip’s speed in the Clipchamp timeline is set to 1x. If it is, try a short test recording after updating Clipchamp or the browser, closing other applications and browser tabs, and keeping Clipchamp open in the foreground throughout the recording.

Could you also confirm whether you are using the Clipchamp Windows app or the web version, and whether the affected laptops use built-in or external microphones?

I hope to hear update from you soon; I'll be happy to help.
