A family of Microsoft presentation graphics products that offer tools for creating presentations and adding graphic effects like multimedia objects and special effects with text.
Try these steps in order for PowerPoint on a Windows laptop:
- Install the latest Office updates
- Open any Office app.
- Go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
- Check whether PowerPoint is busy
- Look at the status bar at the bottom of the PowerPoint window.
- If PowerPoint is being used by another process, wait for that task to finish before trying anything else.
- Start PowerPoint in Safe Mode
- Press Start and type
PowerPnt /safe, then open it. - If PowerPoint works in Safe Mode, disable add-ins:
- Go to File > Options > Add-Ins
- Select COM Add-ins
- Click Go
- Clear all check boxes
- Click OK
- Restart PowerPoint
- If that fixes it, re-enable add-ins one at a time to find the one causing the problem.
- Press Start and type
- Repair Office
- Close all Office apps.
- Open Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Right-click Microsoft Office.
- Select Change, then choose Repair.
- Update antivirus software
- Make sure antivirus software is fully up to date.
- If antivirus integrates with PowerPoint, it can cause performance problems.
- Disabling antivirus integration or antivirus add-ins in PowerPoint may help. Warning: changing antivirus settings can make the PC more vulnerable.
- Change the default printer
- Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound.
- In the printers list, right-click Microsoft XPS Document Writer or Send to OneNote.
- Select Set as default printer.
- If PowerPoint crashes only when opening files with images or video
- Update the Intel graphics driver if the PC has an older Intel 510, 520, or 620 graphics driver.
- If a specific presentation will not open
- In File Explorer, right-click the file and select Properties.
- If there is an Unblock button, select Unblock > Apply > OK.
- Then try opening the file again.
