How to add business account on my mobile phone

For a work or school Teams account on iPhone, the account should be added in Microsoft Authenticator as a work or school account, not by entering a password inside Authenticator first.

Use this setup flow:

1. On a browser, sign in to the Security info page for the business account at https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info.
2. Select Add sign-in method.
3. Choose Microsoft Authenticator and select Add.
4. If Authenticator is already installed on the iPhone, select Next to show the QR code.
5. On the iPhone, open Microsoft Authenticator.
6. Tap the plus icon, then select Add account.
7. Select Work or school account.
8. Tap Scan a QR Code and scan the QR code shown on the Security info page.

If the app is prompting for a password instead, use the QR code method above rather than trying to sign in directly in the app.

There is also a sign-in method using credentials in Authenticator, but that works only when admins have enabled phone sign-in using Authenticator.

If the account was already set up on another device and the current iPhone cannot complete registration, the existing authentication method may need to be re-registered. In that case, on the Security info or Additional security verification page, remove the old phone/authentication entry if present, then add the new phone again and set up Microsoft Authenticator on the iPhone.

If the organization uses Intune app protection or device registration, Outlook and other Microsoft 365 mobile apps can also prompt for Microsoft Authenticator during setup, and device Register prompts may need to be completed before access works.
