How to fix the movie maker 2012 version application

Movie Maker 2012 may show a corruption warning when a source file is damaged, moved, or encoded with an unsupported codec. Since the application is old, compatibility problems are also common on newer versions of Windows.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

Save the project, close Movie Maker completely, restart the computer, and open the project again. This can clear a temporary memory or loading problem.

Test a new project with a different video. If only one file causes the error, convert that file to MP4 using H.264 video and AAC audio, then import the converted copy. If every video causes the error, the application or graphics driver is more likely responsible.

Keep the project file and all original videos, photos, and music in folders on the local drive. Do not rename, move, or delete the source files after adding them. A .wlmp project only references their locations.

For a large project, split it into shorter projects, close other applications, and update the graphics driver from the computer manufacturer’s support page.

Please note that Movie Maker 2012 is legacy software. If the problem continues, it is recommended that you move the source files to Microsoft Clipchamp, which is the official video editor for Windows 10 and Windows 11.
