Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Since the issue started after switching to new Outlook, the most likely causes are either a new Outlook sync problem or contacts that were stored only in classic Outlook and did not move automatically.
Try this in order:
- Check whether the contacts exist in Outlook on the web.
- Open the People page in Outlook on the web.
- If contacts appear there, the data is still in the mailbox and the problem is with the new Outlook app loading or syncing.
- If contacts do not appear there, they may have been stored only in classic Outlook.
- Repair new Outlook.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Outlook (new).
- Select the three dots > Advanced options > Repair.
- Restart Outlook and test People again.
- If People still spins, reset the app state from within new Outlook.
- In new Outlook, go to Settings > General > Privacy and Data > Reset.
- Then go to Settings > Accounts and remove and re-add the account to refresh sync.
- If contacts were local-only in classic Outlook, export and import them.
- In classic Outlook, go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export.
- Choose Export to a file > Comma Separated Values (CSV).
- Export the Contacts (This computer only) folder.
- In new Outlook, open People and import the CSV file.
- If People opens in a separate window when the main view spins, use that as a temporary workaround while repairing the app.
What the results mean:
- Contacts visible on the web = new Outlook client issue.
- Contacts only in classic Outlook local folders = export/import is required.
- People spins everywhere in new Outlook = repair, reset, and account re-add are the supported next steps.

- Outlook contacts not showing in "new" outlook - Microsoft Q&A I have been using outlook for a few years on my laptop. I have 1.2026.317.100. About 6 months ago I switched to the "new" outlook. About 10 days ago, when I tried to open my contacts, I got the message "This doesn't look right". I have rebooted many times and still get the same message. I know the contacts are still present because I see them when I open outlook on my mobile phone. I reverted to the "classic" version and there are no contacts showing. Is there a way to get my contacts to be displayed when using outlook on my laptop? Having to access contact info on my phone is not a viable option option long term.
