A family of Microsoft spreadsheet software with tools for analyzing, charting, and communicating data.
If clicking Repair Now from the error message only closes Excel or Word, use a full Office repair from Windows instead of the in-app prompt.
- Close all Office apps.
- Open Settings.
- Go to:
- Windows 11: Apps > Installed apps
- Windows 10: Apps > Apps and Features
- Find Microsoft 365 or Office.
- Select Modify.
- Choose Online Repair > Repair.
- Quick Repair is faster, but Online Repair is the option that fully fixes corrupted Office files.
- Follow the on-screen steps.
- Restart the PC after the repair finishes.
- Open Excel or Word again and test.
If Office apps still do not open after the repair, older add-ins can also cause this. Disable add-ins manually, especially older versions of ABBYY FineReader or Dragon Naturally Speaking, then try again.
