Unable to sign in to Azure portal

When trying to sign in to azure portal, with my personal email and phone number, I get to the verification step and correctly see the phone number sub-string corresponding to my phone number but when I attempt to login, I get the error:

"Sorry we are having trouble verifying your account. please try again"

The troubleshooting detail are as such:

I see similar questions have been asked however the resolution of the issue seems to be per reporter, hence asking my instance of this question.
