Native Support for Bidirectional Calendar Synchronization Between Google Workspace and Microsoft 365

Hi Microsoft Team,

We are currently working on a Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 migration project where users will be migrated in multiple phases. During this migration period, both Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 will coexist, with users actively working from both platforms.

A key business requirement is to ensure seamless calendar collaboration between users on Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 throughout the coexistence period. The objective is to provide a consistent user experience without requiring users to manually maintain calendars in both environments or disrupting their daily scheduling activities.

Specifically, we are looking for a solution that supports:

Bidirectional calendar synchronization between Google Workspace and Microsoft 365.

Synchronization of newly created calendar events in either platform.

Synchronization of meeting updates, including changes to date, time, attendees, or meeting details.

Synchronization of meeting cancellations.

Support for recurring meetings and updates to recurring meeting series.

Preservation of organizer and attendee information.

Seamless scheduling experience during the coexistence period with minimal user intervention.

We would appreciate your guidance on the following:

Does Microsoft provide any native capability to support bidirectional calendar synchronization between Google Workspace and Microsoft 365?

If native support is not available, are there any Microsoft-recommended or officially supported approaches to achieve this requirement?

Are there any known limitations, prerequisites, or best practices that should be considered for this coexistence scenario?

Has Microsoft published any reference architecture or documentation for organizations requiring calendar coexistence between Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 during a phased migration?

We are aware that several third-party solutions are available for this use case. However, before evaluating those options, we would like to understand Microsoft's native capabilities and recommended approach.

    Based on the current Microsoft documentation, Microsoft does not provide a native Exchange Online/Microsoft 365 calendar coexistence solution that fully supports bidirectional synchronization throughout a phased Google Workspace migration (including all meeting lifecycle operations between the two platforms).

    Microsoft does offer Google Workspace calendar synchronization with Microsoft Teams, which supports bidirectional synchronization of calendar events and meeting responses for supported Google Workspace organizations. However, this capability is specific to the Teams integration scenario rather than a general Exchange Online and Google Workspace coexistence solution. Microsoft also notes that new customer onboarding for this feature is currently paused, although existing customers can continue using it.     For organizations performing a phased migration, Microsoft has not published a reference architecture that provides native support for the complete coexistence scenario you described, including:

    • Bidirectional synchronization of all calendar events between Exchange Online and Google Workspace

    • Full support for recurring meetings throughout the coexistence period
    • Seamless organizer/attendee preservation across both platforms

    Because of this, organizations that require full calendar coexistence during staged migrations typically evaluate third-party coexistence solutions. Microsoft does not publish an official recommendation for a specific third-party product.
