"I am a Microsoft 365 Admin. I accidentally emptied a local Outlook profile folder from my Mac's trash, which contained 25 years of critical email data. I need an advanced engineering team to perform a point-in-time mailbox restorationor a server-side discovery search on my Exchange account to recover items that are past the standard 14-to-30-day deleted deletion window."

    Dear @Scott Heath,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, you accidentally deleted and permanently removed an Outlook profile folder from your Mac that may contain many years of email data.

    Could you confirm:

    • Are the missing emails still available in Outlook on the web (OWA)?
    • Is this an Exchange Online (Microsoft 365) mailbox or an IMAP/POP account?
    • Were any retention policies, Litigation Hold, eDiscovery, or backup solutions configured before the data loss?

To determine the available recovery options, please first verify whether the missing emails are still accessible through Outlook on the web (OWA). If the emails are stored in Exchange Online and remain on the server, creating a new Outlook profile may allow Outlook to resynchronize the mailbox

If the emails are no longer available in the mailbox, recovery may depend on whether your organization had retention policies, Litigation Hold, eDiscovery, Microsoft 365 Backup, or another backup solution configured before the data loss occurred

Please note that Exchange Online does not typically provide a standard point-in-time mailbox restore for historical mailbox data unless a backup solution was configured in advance. Recovery options are generally limited to retained mailbox data, Recoverable Items, eDiscovery, or available backups

For more information, please refer to these articles

Restore data in Microsoft 365 Backup

Delete or restore user mailboxes in Exchange Online

    Looking forward to your update.
