Hello Microsoft Support,

We are experiencing an issue with an Azure AI Foundry agent that has the SharePoint tool enabled.

Environment

  • Azure AI Foundry Project: pearlclaudeintegration
  • Agent Name: SharePointAgentTest
  • Tool Enabled: SharePoint (Preview)
  • Agent Version: 1

Issue Description The agent fails to process requests when the SharePoint tool is enabled. Even simple prompts such as:

1 do you have access to SharePoint?

result in the following error:
ErrorThe server had an error processing your request. Sorry about that! You can retry your request, or contact us through an Azure support request at: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2213926 if you keep seeing this error. (Please include the request ID e132a2bf-3b58-4087-bf7c-80bbb73f662a in your email.)

Request ID: e132a2bf-3b58-4087-bf7c-80bbb73f662a

Troubleshooting Performed

  • Created a new Azure AI Foundry agent.
  • Configured SharePoint Tool (Preview).
  • Tested with a basic prompt unrelated to document retrieval.
  • Verified the issue occurs immediately and consistently.
  • The agent returns a generic server error instead of a response.

Expected Behavior The agent should respond to the prompt and, when appropriate, retrieve information from the configured SharePoint source.

Actual Behavior The request fails with a server-side processing error and no additional diagnostic details are provided in the Playground.

Could you please review the request ID above and advise on the root cause? We would also appreciate any guidance regarding SharePoint tool prerequisites, permissions, tenant requirements, or known issues that may cause this behavior.

Thank you for your assistance.

Zyrka Admin hi & thx for sharing urs issue here at Q&A portal,

The request ID is the key piece of information here. A generic 'The server had an error processing your request' indicates the failure occurred within the Azure AI Foundry service while invoking the SharePoint tool, rather than the model itself returning an error. Since the issue occurs with a newly created agent, a simple prompt, and consistently whenever the SharePoint (Preview) tool is enabled, it doesn't look like a prompt or Claude Opus issue. The fact that the same agent fails before performing any meaningful SharePoint retrieval suggests either a SharePoint tool configuration problem or a backend issue with the preview feature.

    I'd verify that

The SharePoint connection is in a healthy state and has the required Microsoft Graph/SharePoint permissions.

The configured SharePoint site is accessible using the same identity.

The agent works normally when the SharePoint tool is disabled.

If the failure only occurs when the SharePoint tool is enabled, I'd open an Azure AI Foundry support case and provide the project name, agent name, request ID (e132a2bf-3b58-4087-bf7c-80bbb73f662a), region, exact UTC timestamp, and whether the issue reproduces with other models or only Claude Opus. Microsoft will need to correlate the request ID with backend telemetry to determine whether this is a known issue with the SharePoint (Preview) integration or a tenant-specific configuration problem.

    rgds,

    Alex
