Dell Driver Updates Requiring Admin Rights on Intune-Enrolled Device with LAPS Enabled

Hello Everyone,

I have enrolled a Windows device into Microsoft Intune and deployed a Windows LAPS policy successfully. The device was then handed over to an end user who only has standard user permissions (no local administrator rights).

The user is trying to update Dell drivers using Dell SupportAssist/Dell Command Update, but receives the following error:

"Sign in to Windows as an admin to use automatic scan. If you're already signed in as an admin and seeing this message, please reboot."

Since the user does not have local administrator privileges, they are unable to proceed with the driver scan and update.

My questions are:

  1. What is the recommended Intune-managed approach for allowing Dell driver and firmware updates without granting users local administrator rights?
  2. Can Dell Command Update be configured to run updates silently in the system context through Intune?
  3. Has anyone implemented driver updates via Intune, Windows Update for Business, or Dell Command Update policies for standard users?
  4. If LAPS is enabled, is there any supported way to leverage it for driver updates without sharing the local admin password with the user?

Any best practices or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank you.
