Recent Teams Navigation Change Reduces Breadcrumb Usability

Microsoft appears to have introduced a change to the Teams document library navigation. The breadcrumb behavior has changed compared to the previous experience.

Previously, users could see and directly select multiple parent folders from the breadcrumb trail. In the current experience, the navigation is more condensed and users often need additional clicks to access parent or higher-level folders.

We have not identified any tenant configuration or user setting that controls this behavior, so it appears to be a Microsoft UI change.

What is particularly disappointing is that, to our knowledge, this navigation change was not communicated separately through the Microsoft 365 Message Center. Changes that significantly impact day-to-day usability should ideally be communicated in advance so organizations can prepare and support their users accordingly.

From a user experience perspective, this change appears to introduce more drawbacks than benefits. Navigating deep folder structures now requires additional clicks and makes it less efficient for users to move between parent folders, resulting in a less intuitive experience than before.
