What that virus actually does
A shortcut virus (LNK virus) is one of the most common USB‑spread infections. Its behaviour is usually:
Creates fake .lnk shortcuts on USB or external drives
Hides your real folders and replaces them with shortcuts
Drops a small script or executable that runs when you click the shortcut
Tries to reinfect other drives you plug in
Sometimes installs a simple autorun worm
But it does NOT:
Upload your files or photos to the internet
Copy your personal documents
Access your Microsoft account
Steal passwords or banking info (unless another malware is present)
