Hi RGS,
I understand that your Lenovo laptop running Windows 8 cannot connect to your fiber internet Wi‑Fi network.
Since Windows 8/8.1 is EOS (End of Support), support for Windows 8 ended on January 12, 2016, and Windows 8.1 support ended on January 10, 2023. This product has been EOS, but you can still try these workarounds instead.
Before we continue, could you clarify:
- Are you unable to see the Wi‑Fi network at all, or can you see it but cannot connect?
- Does the laptop connect successfully to other Wi‑Fi networks, such as a phone hotspot?
In the meantime, if the fiber internet is working on other devices and the issue is specific to this Windows 8 laptop, please try the following:
1, Forget and reconnect to the Wi‑Fi network.
- Open “Network and Sharing Center”.
- Select “Manage wireless networks”.
- Remove your Wi‑Fi network from the list.
- Reconnect and enter the Wi‑Fi password again.
2, Check whether the wireless adapter is enabled.
- Press “Windows key + X”.
- Open “Device Manager”.
- Expand “Network adapters”.
- Confirm the wireless adapter is present and does not show a warning icon.
3, Run the network troubleshooter.
- Open “Control Panel”.
- Select “Troubleshooting”.
- Choose “Network and Internet”.
- Run “Internet Connections”.
4, If your router is broadcasting only a 5 GHz Wi‑Fi network, check whether the laptop's wireless adapter supports 5 GHz.
- Many older Windows 8 era adapters support only 2.4 GHz networks, which can prevent them from detecting newer Wi‑Fi networks.
