My laptop's touchpad cursor disappear one day unexpectedly, making it difficult to use the computer and I am unable to interact with anything on the screen using the touchpad. I have tried basic troubleshooting steps, but I have not been able to find a solution that fixes the issue. I am looking for help diagnosing the cause of the problem and finding a reliable way to restore and keep the touchpad cursor working properly.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

In the meantime, if you haven’t already already:

    1. Press the touchpad shortcut key on your keyboard. It is usually one of the F keys, like F6, F7, or F9, and may have a touchpad icon. You may need to press Fn + that key.
    2. If you can use an external mouse, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad and make sure Touchpad is turned on.
    3. Open Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices and Human Interface Devices. Right-click the touchpad device, then try Update driver. If that does not help, choose Uninstall device, then restart the laptop.
    4. Also check Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch. Make sure the pointer size is not set very small or hidden by a custom setting.

If issue still persists, to help narrow down the issue:

    1. Can you confirm the laptop brand and model?
    2. Also, does an external USB mouse work normally?
    3. When you say the cursor disappears, is the touchpad still clicking/working, or does the touchpad stop responding completely?
