Remove link previews in chat

Hi,

Looked through other support threads and it seems there is no way to turn off link previews. Our team sends lots of links back and forth and it would be more beneficial to see the full URL instead of the preview/page title.

We shouldn't be forced to either have the preview/page title OR have to update every single link one at a time to show the full URL path.

Is this feature in development or in the roadmap?

Thanks

    Dear Rob,

Good day, and thank you for explaining your issue. I understand your concern. If your team frequently shares links in Microsoft Teams chats, having Teams automatically replace or expand them into link previews/page titles can make it harder to quickly see the full URL path, especially when the URL itself contains useful context.
Just to make sure I'm pointing you in the right direction, could you clarify one thing for me: are you looking to remove the link preview pop-up, or are you looking to see the full URL of the link in the Teams chat? These are two slightly different scenarios, and the recommended solution can vary depending on which one you are after. Please follow these steps to see if it helps:

    For Administrators (Org-wide control)

If your team's preference is not to see the link previews in Microsoft Teams chats, Teams admins can control URL previews through Teams Messaging Policies.

    1. Go to the Teams Admin Center.
    2. Navigate to Messaging policies.
    3. Select the policy applied to your users (usually Global (Org-wide default)).
    4. Find the setting Allow URL previews and turn it Off.
    5. Click Save.

This is the cleanest way to disable link previews across the organization.

For users (if you don't have admin access)

    1. In Teams, click three dots next to your profile picture > Settings.
    2. Go to Privacy.
    3. Turn off the option Optional connected experiences. Note: This may disable some other intelligent features as well.
    4. Then you can press Ctrl + Shift + V when pasting a link into a Teams chat, this will paste the link show the full URL without triggering the preview pop-up.
