Make sure the Bluetooth speaker is in pairing/discovery mode . It won't show up in Windows if it's already connected to another device.

Settings → Bluetooth & devices → confirm Bluetooth toggle is On

Click Add device → Bluetooth and wait for your speaker to appear

If it doesn't appear within 30 seconds, toggle Bluetooth Off → wait 5 sec → On again

Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices

Find the speaker → click the three dots (···) → Remove device

Also clear the pairing from the speaker itself (usually hold Bluetooth button for 5–10 sec)

    Then re-pair fresh

    Right-click Start → Device Manager

    Expand Bluetooth

Right-click the Bluetooth adapter → Update driver → Search automatically

    Press Win + R → type services.msc → find Bluetooth Support Service → right-click → Restart

Try these steps on the Surface to get the Bluetooth speaker connected and used for sound:

    1. Turn on Bluetooth and put the speaker in pairing mode
      • On Surface: select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
      • Make sure Bluetooth is turned On.
      • Put the external speaker into Bluetooth pairing mode (check the speaker’s manual).
    2. Pair (connect) the Bluetooth speaker
      • In Settings > Bluetooth & devices, select Add device (or Add Bluetooth or other device on some versions).
      • Choose Bluetooth, then select the speaker when it appears and complete pairing.
    3. If it shows but won’t connect, remove and re-add it
      • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
      • Find the speaker, select More options (…) (or click it) > Remove device.
      • Then select Add device again and choose the speaker from the list.
    4. Make sure the speaker is selected as the output device
      • Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • Under Choose your output device (or Output), select the Bluetooth speaker.
      • Also click the Sound icon in the taskbar and confirm the Bluetooth speaker is chosen there.
    5. Check volume on Surface and on the speaker
      • Turn up volume in Windows and in any app being used.
      • Turn up volume on the Bluetooth speaker itself.
    6. If still not working, restart Bluetooth and the PC
      • In Settings > Bluetooth & devices, turn Bluetooth off, wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on and try pairing again.
      • If needed, restart the Surface: Start > Power > Restart.

If problems continue, use the Bluetooth troubleshooter and the dedicated Bluetooth audio troubleshooting steps in the linked articles.
