Somehow the green screen feature is not present anymore in my MS Teams. I followed all the how to enable documentation, but the option is simply not there. How can I get it?

Here are some information that I have seen asked on a similar thread that did not have a resolution.

Which version of Teams are you using (Teams desktop app or Teams web version)?: 26149.1205.4798.6437

Does the issue occur on other devices or only this one?: Also on ather devices

Are you checking the option with the camera turned on?: yes

Are you using a personal account or work/school account?: Its a Microsoft Office 365 Family Account

And are you using the newest version of Teams?: Yes

Hello @Enrico Stark

The missing option is most likely explained by the account type, not your Teams version or device.

A Microsoft 365 Family account uses Microsoft Teams for personal use (Teams Free). Microsoft's current documentation for Teams Free lists background blur, custom backgrounds, and video filters, but it does not provide the Green Screen toggle available in Teams for work or school.

So, unfortunately, there isn't a setting you can enable in your Microsoft 365 Family account to make the Green Screen option appear.

You can still use More → Video effects and settings and then select Background blur, a Microsoft-provided background, Your own uploaded background, and Available video filters

If you specifically need Teams' Green Screen functionality, you would need to use a supported Teams work or school account where that feature is available, subject to the device/hardware requirements.

This also explains why reinstalling Teams, trying another computer, or updating to the latest client hasn't brought the toggle back. The available meeting features can differ between Teams personal and Teams work or school accounts.

Microsoft references:

So for your follow-up question: No, there currently isn't a Green Screen option that you can enable for a private Microsoft 365 Family/Teams personal

Green screen is a feature only available for organization account users.

For personal account, even if you have a paid subscription, your account type itself prevents you from having this feature.

I suggest that you use the feedback portal to submit a feature request. Not that all wishes are granted, but the product team behind Microsoft Teams personal are quite open to ideas. https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback

Green screen in Microsoft Teams is only available for supported desktop and web clients and requires background effects support. In the described scenario, the account is a Microsoft 365 Family (personal) account and the tags indicate Microsoft Teams Free, where only standard background customization is documented.

In Microsoft Teams Free meetings, the documented video options are:

    • Turn camera on/off
    • Customize background (static images, brightness, soft focus, and related effects)

There is no mention of a separate green screen toggle for Teams Free/personal scenarios in the available documentation, while the green screen article applies generally to Teams and assumes the feature is present in the client UI. When the toggle is missing across multiple devices and the account type is personal/Family, this typically indicates that the feature is not available for that account/sku rather than a client-side issue.

    Given the information:

    • The camera is on when checking.
    • The latest Teams version is installed.
    • The issue reproduces on multiple devices.
    • The account is a Microsoft 365 Family (personal) account.

The green screen option cannot be enabled because it is not exposed for this account type in the current Teams Free/personal experience. Only the standard background customization options documented for Microsoft Teams Free can be used.
