How to lock or unlock specific areas of a protected worksheet online version? It only lets you pause and unpause the protection. User's imageUser's image

    Hi O'Neal, Sarah,

For your concern, in Excel on the web, you can edit unlocked ranges in protected worksheet via Review > Manage Protection:

However, based on your screenshot, the Manage Protection tab is greyed out on your ribbon, which likely means that the workbook is in a restricted/view-only or organization-protected state, so Excel disables Manage Protection and you don't have permission to change the protection settings.

That said, I suggest you first check on the top-right of the worksheet to see which permission you are currently have:

    • If you only have Viewing permission, the Manage Protection tab will be greyed out by design.
    • If you have Editing permission but cannot use the Manage Protection tab, that helps confirm the worksheet is truly restricted.

Hope this information would be helpful for your concern. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments on this post so I can continue to support you.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. I'm looking forward to your reply.
