Using Microsoft Teams on macOS, including installation, features, and compatibility
Regarding your issue, the "We've run into an issue / Oops, something went wrong" message on Teams for Mac can have a few possible causes, and one common factor is that leftover cache and app‑support files may remain on the Mac after the app is removed which can sometimes cause a fresh install to return to the same screen.
Here are a few steps you can try:
- Quit Teams
- Press Option + Command + Escape on your keyboard to open the Force Quit applications menu.
- Select Microsoft Teams from the list.
- Click Force Quit and confirm.
- Clear the cache and leftover files
Open Finder and navigate to Applications > Utilities > Terminal (or press Command + Space, type "Terminal", and press Return) and run the commands below.
rm -rf ~/Library/Group\ Containers/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teams
rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2
For more details, please refer to: Clear the cache in Teams for macOS
Optionally, if you happen to have any of the following older files still on your Mac, you can remove those too. Some or all of them may not exist that's completely normal, so you can safely ignore any "No such file or directory" messages:
~/Library/Caches/com.microsoft.teams
~/Library/Caches/com.microsoft.teams.shipit
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Application Cache/Cache
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/blob_storage
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Cache
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/databases
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/GPUCache
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/IndexedDB
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Local Storage
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/tmp
- Drag the app to the Trash
- Open your Applications folder in Finder.
- Locate Microsoft Teams and drag it directly to the Trash. Empty the Trash.
- Restart your Mac and Reinstall Teams
- Restart the device to clear any background Teams processes and temporary memory before reinstalling. Download the latest installer (.pkg file) and do not open it yet
- Move the downloaded .pkg file into the Applications folder
- Open the installer from Applications instead of Downloads
- Proceed with installation and allow any permission prompts
Note: Check macOS compatibility Ensure your macOS version is supported by the latest Teams version, as older systems may cause installation to fail.
Hopefully it will help work with your issue and if you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.
