Groups within Teams Free for shared interests, collaboration, and communication
In Communities in Microsoft Teams Free, channels are primarily discussion spaces and do not expose the same Files/Folder experience as standard Teams work/school channels. The available actions in Communities are focused on conversations, events, and sharing content within the community and its channels, not on creating structured folder hierarchies.
Because of this, there is no “+” button in community channels to add folders in the way that exists in regular Teams channels backed by SharePoint. The behavior described (missing plus sign to add a folder) is by design for Communities in Teams Free rather than a problem with the subscription or updates.
To organize content in a community channel, use the existing conversation and sharing features within that channel. If full Files/SharePoint-style folder management is required, use a standard Teams team/channel (for work or school) instead of a Teams Free community.
