    Hi David,

From your screenshot you are going through wrong flow to request quota increase for B series VM. Please navigate to Quotas in Azure portal using below link:

    https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_Azure_Capacity/QuotaMenuBlade/~/myQuotas

At the top, click on Region filter and select West Europe, then type standard bs family in the search box. Next click on the pencil icon to the right of Standard BS Family vCPUs

Enter the new limit you are requesting and click Submit.

Please note that due to capacity constraints and the fact that Bv1 series is retiring in 2028, they may deny your quota request. In that case I recommend you request Standard Bsv2 Family vCPUs or Standard Basv2 Family vCPUs instead. These are intended to replace Bv1 series VMs.

    Increase VM-family vCPU quotas

Please click Accept Answer and upvote if the above was helpful.

    Thanks.

    Hello David.

The free VM size B1s (B-series v1) is being retired in many Azure regions and is now only available in limited quantities.

    Source: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/explore/global-infrastructure/products-by-region/table

    How to check:

Go to Subscription > Usage + Quotas > and look for the B-series quota details. User's image

    Subscription and quota notes:

You can confirm availability by navigating to Azure Portal → Subscriptions → Usage + quotas.

    • If the B-series quota isn’t available, you can request access by submitting a support ticket.
    • Free Trial subscriptions can’t request quota increases, so retired or restricted SKUs like Standard_B1s can’t be enabled in those subscriptions.

    Reference: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/quotas/per-vm-quota-requests

    Solution:

Microsoft suggests using the newer B-series v2 (Bsv2) VM sizes, which are supported and available in more regions.

    For Windows VM: try B2ATS

For Linux VM: try B2ATS, and B2PTS

All of these are free of charge (750 hours per month) if used with a P6 (64GiB) managed disk.

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A

Hello @David Cletus I hope you are doing well,

If the B1-series VM is completely missing or greyed out in the drop-down menu when you attempt to create a zonal quota request, you are likely running into a Compute Capacity Constraint or a Subscription SKU Restriction.

    1. Zonal Capacity Exhaustion (Most Common) The B1 series (specifically the B1s) is one of the most highly consumed VM sizes in Azure due to its inclusion in the Free Tier. When a specific Availability Zone within a region runs out of physical hardware capacity for this SKU, Azure Resource Manager dynamically removes it from the portal UI to prevent deployment failures.

    • Try selecting Zone 2 or Zone 3, or switch to a completely different Azure Region.

    2. Regional vs. Zonal Support Not all VM sizes are supported across all Availability Zones in every region. Some older or smaller SKUs are only deployed to a single zone. If you are specifically requesting "Zone Access" in the quota menu, Azure will hide SKUs that do not support zonal deployments in your chosen region.

    • instead of requesting a Zonal quota increase, change your support request type to a standard Regional vCPU Quota Increase for the "Standard B-Series Family."

    3. Subscription Type Restrictions If you are on an Azure Free Account or Azure for Students subscription, Microsoft heavily restricts which regions you can deploy B-series VMs into.

    • Ensure you are deploying into one of the recommended Free Tier regions (such as East US, West Europe, or Southeast Asia).

The B1 series is a restricted VM series in some regions and zones. To request access for a specific zone, a zonal enablement request must be created through an Azure support (quota) request. If the B1 series or the zone is not selectable in the portal, it typically means zonal access for that VM series has not yet been granted for that subscription/region/zone combination.

Use the zonal enablement request flow:

    1. In the Azure portal, go to Help + support and select Create a support request.
    2. In Describe your issue, type quotas and select Service and Subscription Limits (quotas), then select Create a support request.
    3. On New support request:
      • Issue type: Service and Subscription Limits (quotas)
      • Subscription: select the subscription where B1 is needed
      • Quota type: Compute-VM (cores-vCPUs) subscription limit increases
    4. Go to Problem detailsEnter details:
      • Deployment model: Resource Manager
      • Choose request types: Zone access
      • Under Locations, select the region(s) where B1 is required
      • In each region box, choose the desired logical zone from Select requested logical zone
      • Select the B-series VM family (for example, B1) in the VM series list
      • Select Save and continue
    5. Complete the contact details and select Create to submit the request.

Multiple regions and zones can be requested in a single ticket. After submission, the request is processed by support and status can be tracked under Help + support → All support requests. Once zonal access is granted, the B1 series should become selectable for the requested zones.

If the B1 series still cannot be selected after zonal access is approved, use an alternative size or region temporarily, as capacity or SKU availability issues can also prevent selection.
