I'm running Hyper-V in a domain where I'm not an administrator. The FQDN of my Hyper-V hosts doesn't match the computer name. This creates multiple issues for management and backup services.

I've followed documentation about adding SPNs to the computer objects to point to FQDN. However, services like System Center Virtual Machine manager still don't find the hosts correctly (unless I modify the C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file). Backup services like Cohesity also can't find the hosts because of the mismatch in computer name/FQDN.

What else should I be doing to make sure communication between the systems is working properly?

Try assigning alternative names by following http://dimitri.janczak.net/2016/09/26/multiple-server-names-on-windows/
