Teams Black Screen When Screen Sharing - HP EliteBook G14

Hi,

Multiple users reported Teams goes black screen when starting screen sharing. Audio still works, and it sometimes recovers after a few minutes.

Setup:

  • HP EliteBook G14, Windows 11, Teams — all fully updated
  • No new drivers available via HP Support Assistant or Windows Update
  • Windows Reliability Monitor shows no Teams crash logs

The issue is intermittent across multiple machines of the same model.

Has anyone seen this before? Anything else to check?

Thanks!

    Dear @GoodPig,

Since this issue is intermittent but consistently isolated to your HP EliteBook deployment, it is highly likely tied to how the local graphics processing or network prioritization utilities interact with Teams' real-time video encoding.

Even if Windows Update and HP Support Assistant show your systems are "fully updated," OEM-validated driver pipelines often lag behind critical backend engine fixes.

I recommend implementing the following targeted solutions to resolve the screen-sharing blackouts:

Step 1: Bypass HP/OEM Pipelines for the Intel GPU Driver (Primary Fix)

A known bug in Intel graphics drivers causes an intermittent video freeze or immediate black screen during media rendering/capture states. While HP may not have pushed the fix to their support assistant yet, Intel resolved this in a recent baseline release.

    • Download and install GPU driver version 32.0.101.7026 or higher directly from the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant. This link is shared by community members for your convenience. Step 2: Disable "Prioritization" in Intel Connectivity Performance Suite

Many enterprise-grade HP EliteBooks ship pre-installed with the Intel Connectivity Performance Suite. This software dynamically manages network traffic, but its background packet prioritization engine is known to occasionally conflict with Teams screen-sharing streams, dropping video data while preserving audio.

    • Open the Intel Connectivity Performance Suite application on an affected laptop and toggle Prioritization to Off. Test a screen-share session to see if the stability returns.

Step 3: Adjust Teams and Display Settings (workarounds)

If your users need an immediate fix while drivers are deployed, have them apply these configuration changes:

    • Toggle Hardware Acceleration: In Teams, navigate to Settings > General and check or uncheck Disable GPU hardware acceleration, then restart the application entirely.
    • Disable HDR: If users are hooked up to external monitors with High Dynamic Range (HDR) enabled, turn it off under Windows Settings > System > Display, as HDR capture flags can cause immediate black screens during video encoding. Please refer to this document: What is HDR in Windows? - Microsoft Support
    • Share Windows, Not Desktops: Advise users to select a specific Application Window to share rather than their entire Desktop, which bypasses global frame-buffer capture bugs.

For further reference on isolating capture behaviors, you can consult the official Monitor call and meeting quality in Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Support

Please let me know if disabling the network prioritization tool or manual GPU overriding resolves the issue for your EliteBook fleet.
