Finding specific messages or threads using search tools within Microsoft Teams chat history
Teams chat does not provide a built-in view that shows per-conversation metrics like start date/time, end date/time, or total duration of a chat with a specific person.
What is available instead is the continuous chat history itself (messages shown in the chat thread) and some related behaviors:
- One-on-one and group chats keep their message history in the thread, but there is no summary view of “sessions” with start/end timestamps or durations.
- When someone is added to a group chat, you can choose how much existing chat history they see, but this is still message history, not a duration log.
- For meetings, recurring meeting chats persist across occurrences, and participants can see previous messages, but again there is no per-chat duration field.
So the reason those specific fields (start time, end time, duration) are not visible is that Teams does not expose chat history in that summarized, session-based format.
