Why did my minecraft work fine yesterday, now won't authenticate?

I have had minecraft for years, and only the past few months of having to re login to authenticate every few weeks, which is ridiculous in its self, but now today it doesnt work. I am running on laptop with windows 7, I got minecraft originally installed with windows 7 and always worked until now. What changed that now my paid for product does not work anymore?
