Additional settings-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams Free
To test that Microsoft Teams audio and video are working, use Teams’ device settings and the built-in test call.
1. Open device settings in Teams (before a meeting)
- In Teams, select Settings and more (three dots in the top-right).
- Select Settings.
- Select Devices.
- Under Audio > Audio settings:
- Choose the correct Speaker from the Speaker dropdown.
- Choose the correct Microphone from the Microphone dropdown.
- Under Camera (if shown), select your camera and confirm the preview looks correct.
- Select Make a test call. Follow the Test Call Bot instructions, speak a short message, and play it back to confirm mic, speaker, and camera all work. Adjust devices if needed and repeat if necessary.
Notes about test calls
- Test calls are currently available only in English.
- The test recording is deleted immediately after the call and is not retained.
- The test call feature is not available in Teams on the web.
2. Check audio during a meeting
- In a Teams meeting, select the dropdown arrow next to Mic.
- Select More actions > Audio settings.
- Under Speaker, make sure the correct device is selected and not muted.
- Under Microphone, make sure the correct mic is selected.
3. If video or audio still don’t work
- For camera issues, make a test call as above and, if needed, follow the troubleshooting steps in My camera isn't working in Microsoft Teams.
- For microphone issues, verify the correct mic is selected in Devices and use Make a test call as described above.
- For speaker issues, ensure the correct speaker is selected and test again with Make a test call.
