Copilot weekly task limit not resetting

I reached my weekly task limit in Copilot, and it gave me the "check back Friday" message, but that was 2 weeks ago, and I still don't have access. I tried to chat with a support specialist from Microsoft, but she joined the chat, said nothing, and then closed my case.

    Hi Andrea Noss,

I can understand how frustrating this must be, especially since the message says to “check back Friday,” but it still has not reset even after about two weeks.

Just to add some context, Copilot Tasks is still in preview. During this stage, features, usage limits, and overall behavior can change and may vary depending on system conditions as improvements are being rolled out. Because of that, scenarios like limits appearing earlier than expected or reset timing not matching exactly can sometimes occur while the service is still evolving. For more information, please visit https://support.microsoft.com/en-US/microsoft-copilot/using-copilot-tasks

Also, just to set expectations: this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators and contributors, including external Microsoft employees, do not have access to backend systems and cannot directly reset or refresh Copilot usage limits for an account.

At this point, I recommend contacting Microsoft Support again and including the exact message, when it first appeared, the fact that more than one Friday reset has passed, and the case number from your previous support chat as well.

I hope you’re able to use Copilot Tasks again smoothly.

The weekly task and usage limits for Copilot-style experiences are enforced and reset by the service; when they do not reset as expected, it is a backend/service issue that must be corrected by Microsoft support.

    From the available information:

    • Copilot-style services can throttle or block access after excessive use and may show messages telling users to wait for a reset period (for example, weekly or monthly).
    • When limits are reached, functionality can be partially or fully disabled until the next reset window. If the reset does not occur as expected, this is not something that can be fixed locally on the device.
    • Similar Copilot offerings (for example, GitHub Copilot Free in Visual Studio or Azure Copilot) explicitly state that excessive use can lead to temporary throttling and that users must either wait for the next cycle or contact support if the block does not clear after the documented period.

Given that access has not returned after two weeks and a prior support interaction was not completed, the only supported path is to escalate through Microsoft support so that the backend account state can be checked and corrected. Local troubleshooting (reinstalling apps, changing devices, clearing cache, or signing out/in) will not change a server-side usage/limit flag.

    Recommended actions:

    1. Sign in with the affected account and try Copilot again to confirm the limit message still appears.
    2. If the limit persists beyond the stated reset period, open a new support request and clearly state that:
      • The account hit a weekly Copilot task limit.
      • The “check back Friday” window has passed by more than one full cycle.
      • Access is still blocked and needs backend review.
    3. If using a work or school account, ask the Microsoft 365 admin to open a support ticket from the Microsoft 365 or Azure admin portals so Microsoft can inspect the tenant/account state.

There is no documented client-side setting or workaround to bypass or manually reset these limits; resolution requires Microsoft support intervention when the automatic reset does not occur.
