Hi @Mohini,
Thank you for your response and for the details. The error message "Chat is only available during the meeting" while you are actively in the live class is typically caused by a meeting or messaging policy configured by your institution's IT administrator.
Since others in your class are able to comment but you cannot, I recommend reaching out to your IT administrator and asking them to verify the following policies for your account:
- Meeting policy:
- Select the policy assigned to your account, and ensure Meeting chat is set to On for everyone or On for everyone but anonymous users under the Meeting engagement section.
- Messaging policy:
In Teams for Education, the global messaging policy for students may have Chat set to Off. The IT administrator should verify this under Messaging policies in the Teams admin center.
- In the Microsoft Teams admin center, navigate to Messaging > Messaging policies.
- Select the policy assigned to your account, and make sure Chat is enabled.
Once these policies are confirmed and updated if needed, please rejoin the live class and check if the issue is resolved.
Additionally, if the issue persists after trying these steps, your IT administrator can also open a support ticket with Microsoft via the admin center. A technical support engineer can then initiate a remote session, review backend settings, and run diagnostics. If needed, they can escalate the case to specialized engineering teams who are well-equipped to perform advanced troubleshooting and provide targeted solutions.
As moderators, our primary goal is to provide helpful guidance and support through general troubleshooting steps. We genuinely hope the information we share helps point you in the right direction, and we're always here to assist as much as we can within our scope.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow the steps above and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can continue working together to resolve the issue.
