To activate Office 2016 on a Mac running macOS 10.13, use the appropriate installer for Office 2016 and then sign in with the account that owns the license.
- Install Office 2016 for Mac
- If using a one-time purchase (Home & Business or Volume License):
- Download the Office 2016 for Mac (Version 16.16) installer that applies:

- Run the installer and complete installation.
- Download the Office 2016 for Mac (Version 16.16) installer that applies:
- If using Microsoft 365 operated by 21Vianet:
- From the Mac, sign in to Office 365 operated by 21Vianet at https://login.partner.microsoftonline.cn with the work or school account.
- Go to Settings > Office 365 Settings > Software.
- Under Install Office 2016 for Mac, select Install to download the installer package.
- Open Finder > Downloads and double-click Microsoft_Office_2016_Installer.pkg.
- Select Continue and follow the prompts, entering the Mac login password when asked.
- If using a one-time purchase (Home & Business or Volume License):
- Activate Office 2016 for Mac (one-time purchase)
- Launch any Office app, such as Word.
- On the Sign in to activate Office screen, sign in with the Microsoft account associated with the Office 2016 purchase.
- In the top menu, select Word > About Word.
- Confirm the version number starts with 16.16, indicating Office 2016 for Mac is installed and activated.
- Activate Office 2016 for Mac (Microsoft 365 / 21Vianet subscription)
- After installation, Word 2016 for Mac opens.
- Review the What’s New screen and select Get started.
- On Sign in to Activate Office, select Sign In and enter the work or school account.
- If prompted for keychain access, select Allow or Always Allow.
- Choose an appearance, select Continue, then Start Using Word to complete activation.
If activation issues occur (for example, “No license found” or repeated prompts to activate), verify that the correct Microsoft account or work/school account with a valid license is used, and consider removing existing license files and reactivating as described in the activation troubleshooting guidance.
