Install MS Office Home

To install Office Home on a new computer without the product key, the product must be located under the Microsoft account it was redeemed or purchased with. The key itself generally cannot be retrieved online.

Use these steps depending on how Office was obtained:

1. If Office was bought as a one-time purchase (for example, Office Home & Student or Home & Business) and redeemed with a Microsoft account:
   1. Go to the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services.
   2. Sign in with the Microsoft account that was originally used to redeem or buy Office.
   3. Look for the Office Home product (for example, Office Home & Student 2016/2019/2021/2024, or similar) under “Services & subscriptions.”
   4. Select Install (or Product key/install if shown) and follow the prompts to download and install Office on the new computer.
   5. After installation, open an Office app and sign in with the same Microsoft account to activate. A separate product key is not required once it is linked to the account.
2. If Office was purchased from Microsoft Store and not yet installed:
   1. Go to the Microsoft Store site and sign in with the same account used to buy Office.
   2. Open Order history.
   3. Find the Office purchase and select Product key/install or Install Office to view the product key (if available) and start installation.
3. If Office came pre-installed on a PC:
   1. Check the Certificate of Authenticity that came with the computer for “Microsoft Office” and the product key.
   2. If the key is lost but there is valid proof of purchase, contact Microsoft support as described in the Office 2010 product key article; support may be able to replace the key or offer options.
4. If the product key truly cannot be found and the product is not visible under any Microsoft account used in the past, it cannot be retrieved from Microsoft’s online systems. In that case, only Microsoft support, with proof of purchase, may be able to help replace the key.

Note:

• Product keys are generally not displayed online for most modern Office one-time purchases; installation and activation are done by signing in with the associated Microsoft account rather than reusing the key.
• If multiple Microsoft accounts exist, each should be checked at https://account.microsoft.com/services to find where Office was redeemed.
