Finish Fixing my Account and Data Access

I have 2 devices.

Today when I signed into my Mac and looked at my OneNote for Mac application I noticed that at the bottom left it seemed to be a user that was not me. I am the only one who uses my mac account. I panicked and logged out of it.

From there I looked at checking my microsoft account. It was in a bad state so I went through the hoops to set up a passkey and prove I'm a human with the ability to verify with a QR code. So I think my account is okay now... but... I'm still having issues with my One Note.

It gives me a sync error saying that I cannot edit because I don't have access. I assume that the access was given to whoever's email I logged out of at first. Is there anything I can do at this point to get my OneNote instance back? Is there anything I can do to figure out what the account was that took me over to report them or otherwise get them disentangled from my products?

    Hello Whitney Levis

I can see that you are having trouble with your OneNote

From what you described, it sounds like OneNote on the Mac may still be connected to the wrong account session or cached sign-in details, which can cause sync and access errors even after your Microsoft account security has been updated.

Here is what you can do to fix this issue:

Check the notebook in your browser first:

    • In OneNote for Mac, copy the notebook link and open it in your browser while signed in with your correct Microsoft account.
    • If the notebook opens there, use Open in OneNote from the browser to reconnect it to the Mac app.

    Update OneNote and Office:

    • Open OneNote and go to Help > Check for Updates.
    • Install all available updates for OneNote and the other Office apps.

Clear the saved Office sign-in credentials on the Mac:

    • Sign out of OneNote.
    • Quit the Office apps.
    • Open Keychain Access and remove the Office sign-in items
    • Reopen OneNote and sign in again with your correct account.

    Manually sync the notebook:

    • In OneNote for Mac, Control-click the notebook name and choose Sync This Notebook.

    If notes seem missing:

    • Check Deleted Notes in OneNote for Mac to see whether any pages or sections can be restored.

If the notebook still does not open in the browser with your account, it may mean the notebook is linked to a different account or the current account does not have permission to edit it.Feel free reply back to this post if you need further assistance, I'll be happy to help.
