Follow these steps to troubleshoot issues making calls or joining meetings in Microsoft Teams:

    1. Check if the issue is only with meetings/calls
      • Since chat and other features may still work when calls/meetings fail, focus on joining a meeting from a fresh link (for example, from the Teams calendar or a new invite) to see if all meetings fail or only specific ones.
    2. Verify how you are joining the meeting
      • If joining from a phone or tablet using a web browser, install and use the Teams mobile app instead. Teams meetings are not supported in mobile web browsers.
      • If joining from a desktop, use the Teams desktop app or a supported browser.
    3. Check common reasons you can’t join a meeting
      • You might be stuck in the lobby: wait for the organizer to admit the account being used, or contact the organizer directly.
      • The meeting may require sign-in with a work or school account:
        • If you see messages like “Sign in to join this meeting” or “Sign in with a different account to join this meeting,” sign in with the exact account the invite was sent to.
        • If policies in the organizer’s organization block external users, the organizer or their IT admin must change those settings.
      • The meeting might be locked or have end-to-end encryption enabled:
        • If the meeting is locked or organizational policy prevents joining, contact the organizer so they can unlock the meeting or adjust settings.
      • The meeting might not be an online meeting:
        • If there is no Teams join option in the invite, the organizer must edit the meeting and turn on the Teams meeting toggle.
    4. Check network connection and call drops
      • If calls or meetings drop or never fully connect, verify that the internet connection is stable and has enough bandwidth.
      • If possible, switch to a more reliable network or wired connection.
      • Restart the Teams app and ensure the latest version is installed.
    5. Clear Teams cache or reset the app (desktop)
      • If Teams hangs on the loading screen when joining meetings, clearing the cache or resetting the app often resolves it:
        • On Windows, reset the Teams app from Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft Teams > Advanced options > Reset, or delete the Teams cache folder under the user profile as described in the context.
        • On macOS, remove the Teams data folders under ~/Library/Group Containers and ~/Library/Containers as described, then restart Teams.
    6. Try another platform
      • If using the desktop app, try joining the same meeting from the web at https://teams.microsoft.com or from the mobile app.
      • If it works on another platform, the issue is likely with the local desktop installation or cache; reinstalling after fully removing leftover Teams files under AppData can help.
    7. For education accounts
      • If using Teams for Education, some permissions (like creating or joining certain meetings) may be controlled by the institution’s IT admin. If none of the above works, contact the school’s IT admin to verify that the account has permission to join meetings and make calls.

If calls or meetings still fail after these steps, check with the organization’s IT admin and verify there are no service incidents using Microsoft 365 Service Status.

    Hi @Lamia,

For the best possible assistance, could you provide more detailed information about this situation? I appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

    • What exactly happen when you try to make a call or join a meeting (the call/meeting attempt fails immediately, it keeps ringing/loading then fails, etc.)?
    • Do you get any error message or error code? If yes, please share me a screenshot or the exact wording of the message.
    • Have you tried joining from Teams web version instead of Teams app? Does it work there or also fail?
    • Does other Teams feature like chat, channels, calendar, etc. work normally or have issue too?
    • What operating system are you using (Windows, MacOS, Android, etc.)? Have you tested from another device beside the affected one and does it work there?

Please understand that my initial response may not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. I look forward to hearing from you.
