Migrated SharePoint Online Document Sets load the wrong item context when opened from search results.

In SharePoint Online, Document Sets are appearing correctly in search results, but clicking the result redirects to docsethomepage.aspx instead of the actual item. This results in incorrect item context (same ID being loaded regardless of selection). Direct navigation from the library works correctly. Has anyone encountered search resolving Document Sets to the welcome page and causing incorrect record loading?

Context: The document library was recently migrated from SharePoint On-Prem to SharePoint Online. The original solution used InfoPath, but we recreated that experience using a Canvas Power App. The Power App is currently launched through formatting applied to the library’s Name column, which passes the selected item context to the app. The issue appears to be specific to the native SharePoint search/navigation path for Document Sets after migration, not the custom Canvas App link itself.

    Hi @Service Account

    Thank you for reaching out.

First, I’d like to clarify that this is a user‑to‑user support forum. Moderators participating here do not have access to backend systems, nor can we directly intervene in Microsoft product functionality. Our role is limited to providing technical guidance and sharing best‑practice recommendations based on reported issues, requests, and scenarios.

Based on your description, looks like the issue is related to how SharePoint Online resolves Document Set links from search results. As far as I know, instead of linking to the specific Document Set item, search may resolve to the underlying document set welcome page (docsethomepage.aspx). When this happens, the URL may not carry the correct item context (ID), resulting in the same record being loaded regardless of the selected search result.

Additionally, this behavior may appear after migration from on-premises, where Document Set URLs may not be indexed correctly. Direct navigation from the library works because it uses modern routing and resolves the correct item context.

Please note that this summary is based on my own findings and may not fully address your concerns. To help you reach your goal more effectively, I recommend engaging with [GitHub Community Forum] for a deeper technical dive or to connect with individuals who have relevant experience and expertise. Some approaches may behave differently or be restricted depending on your specific environment and configuration. These forums include many experienced developers and Microsoft specialists who can assist with troubleshooting and guidance.

    I hope this helps.

The described behavior (Document Set search results resolving to docsethomepage.aspx and loading the wrong item context) is not covered in the provided context. The context only addresses general SharePoint search issues such as missing or incorrect search results, hybrid search problems, and partitioned Search Service Application proxies, but does not mention Document Sets, docsethomepage.aspx, or Power Apps integration.
