Is Copilot rolled out into OneNote on 365 family subscription?

I have a 365 family subscription and using onenote. However, copilot button is greyed out. I have confirmed my account details etc with support but they have linked me to here. The filed is synced with one drive. I am using it on a MacBook and have reinstalled all the apps directly from windows website rather than App Store and that didn't work either. Support said it might not be rolled out on onenote yet. It is working fine on word/outlook etc.

Any help is appreciated

    Hello Gerame,

Are you using Microsoft 365 through your Work or School? That may explain why it is greyed out. Also, Microsoft last year informed that it is still rolling out on MacOS and iPad.

I hope this information helps. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to reach out.

Otherwise, if your problem is resolved, please take a moment to rate the answer. Wishing you good luck!

Copilot in OneNote for Microsoft 365 Family is still in rollout and not yet available to all users or all apps at the same time.

    Key points for this scenario:

    1. Rollout status
      • The “Take notes with Copilot” feature in OneNote is currently rolling out and will “gradually be made available over the coming weeks.” This means some accounts and devices see it later than others, even if Copilot already works in Word, Outlook, etc.
      • During rollout, the Copilot button may appear but be unavailable (for example, greyed out) until the feature is fully enabled for that account/tenant and platform.
    2. Requirements specific to OneNote
      • To use “Take notes with Copilot” in OneNote on Windows, the documentation requires:
        • A Copilot license (work or home), and
        • A personal notebook that is not shared with anyone else and is synced to the cloud.
      • For Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, and Premium subscribers, AI features (including Copilot in OneNote) are governed by AI credits and age/region requirements. If the account does not meet age requirements for the region, AI features can be removed from specific apps even when other apps still show Copilot.
    3. Platform and account considerations
      • Copilot is available in the Home tab of Microsoft 365 apps for Copilot subscribers, including OneNote for Microsoft 365 for Mac, but the license must be correctly associated with the signed-in account and the app must be on a current build.
      • If Copilot is missing or disabled in a specific app while present in others, the guidance is to:
        • Confirm the correct account with Copilot/AI entitlements is the primary signed-in account in that app.
        • Ensure the app is updated to the latest build.
        • Refresh the license from any Microsoft 365 app (File → Account → Update License on Windows; on Mac, ensure sign-out/sign-in and updates via Microsoft AutoUpdate).
      • Even after these steps, Copilot in OneNote may remain unavailable until the rollout reaches that account and platform.

Given that Copilot already works in Word/Outlook on the same subscription and device, and the account has been confirmed, the most likely cause of the greyed-out Copilot button in OneNote is that the OneNote-specific Copilot features (such as “Take notes with Copilot”) have not yet fully rolled out or been enabled for that account on Mac.
