To open and print the PDF that Copilot generated, first open it in a PDF-capable app, then use that app’s print function.

On Windows or Mac using a browser and OneDrive:

    1. Upload the PDF file (pre_travel_checklist_spain.pdf) to OneDrive.
    2. In a modern browser such as Microsoft Edge or Chrome, go to OneDrive and select the PDF. It opens in the browser’s built-in PDF reader.
    3. Use the browser’s print command (for example, in Edge select More (…) > Print).
    4. Choose printer, page orientation, and number of copies, then select Print.

If the browser does not print correctly:

    1. In OneDrive, select the PDF and choose Download.
    2. Open the downloaded file in the default PDF viewer on the device (for example, Microsoft Edge, Adobe Reader, or another PDF reader).
    3. Use File > Print (or the app’s print button) and confirm printer and settings.

If the PDF needs editing before printing:

    1. Open Word on the desktop.
    2. Use File > Open and select the PDF to convert it to an editable Word document (.docx).
    3. Make changes, then print from Word with File > Print.

On Outlook.com if the PDF is an email attachment:

    1. In the email body, select the PDF attachment and choose Download.
    2. Open it in the computer’s PDF viewer.
    3. Use the viewer’s print option and select printer, copies, and other settings, then print.

If protected PDFs are involved and Microsoft Edge is the default viewer:

    1. Ensure Microsoft Edge is version 83.0.478.37 or later.
    2. Open the PDF in Edge and use Settings and more (…) > Print.

    Hi BRIAN AHEARNE,

I totally get how confusing it feels when Copilot gives you a PDF path, but you cannot open nor print it. You’re not doing anything wrong, there’s just nothing to work with here: the generation likely failed and the file was never actually created.

The path sandbox:/mnt/data/... isn’t pointing to a real file, just an internal placeholder Copilot uses while generating content. Normally, you should see a clickable download button or an attachment, but it failed, so only the path was shown.

    • Go back to Copilot and ask: Generate the PDF again with a download link. You need a response that includes a clickable download or attachment.
    • If it keeps giving you the sandbox path and you urgently need the file, ask: Give me the text instead. You can paste it into Word / Notepad and save it as a PDF.

I know it’s not ideal, but this is a rough edge with file generation for most LLMs. Sometimes the process doesn’t finish correctly so it gives you an internal path instead of an actual downloadable file.
