A service that simplifies device provisioning and setup for end users, enabling zero-touch deployment
The message indicates that the daily limit for security codes or verification messages has been reached. When this happens, further attempts to sign in, reset passwords, or unlock the account are temporarily blocked to protect against spam or abuse.
To continue working, the only supported options are:
- Wait for the lockout/limit period to expire
- Daily limits and lockouts typically reset after a cooldown period (often about 24 hours).
- Avoid additional sign-in or recovery attempts during this time, as repeated attempts can extend the cooldown.
- Use the official unlock/recovery paths once the limit resets
- If this is a Microsoft account/Outlook.com mailbox, use the Sign-in Helper to unblock the account after the limit resets: Sign-in Helper.
- If the account is fully locked or standard methods fail, follow the guidance in When you can't sign in to your Microsoft account (linked from the Outlook.com unblock article) and, if required, complete the account recovery form again after the daily limit resets.
- If verification codes are not arriving
- For work or school accounts, follow the steps in Common problems with two-step verification for a work or school account under "I'm not getting my verification code. What do I do?" and ensure the correct browser/session is used when retrieving codes from an alternate email.
- Be aware that if the account is locked for security reasons, verification messages might not go through until the lock/flag is cleared.
- If completely locked out and all recovery options are exhausted
- For personal Microsoft accounts, recovery is automated. If the recovery form and code requests have hit their daily limits, wait until the next day and try again from a familiar device and network, providing accurate information.
- For work or school accounts where access is blocked and there is no way to complete MFA or verification, contact the organization’s admin or support channel so they can work with Microsoft support (Data Protection / Tenant Recovery) using the appropriate admin/support paths.
During the lockout window, work that depends on this specific account cannot proceed through Microsoft’s systems; alternative accounts or offline work may be needed until the limit resets and the account can be unlocked.
