    Hi,

Please check if the File is marked as final, Go to File → Info and check if "Mark as Final" is enabled. Click it again to toggle it off.

Also, if the file is on a Restricted Location, such as an external drive, network location, or iCloud, with sync issues, Excel may restrict saving. Try File → Save a Copy to a local folder first.

I’m eager to hear back and work together to find a solution.

On an iMac, when Excel’s Save and Save As are unavailable, the most common causes are:

    1. Excel not properly activated or licensing helper disabled (Mac)
If Excel has lost its license or cannot reach the licensing helper, saving can be blocked while other apps (Word, PowerPoint) still work.
      • Open System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions.
      • Look for an entry related to Microsoft Office Licensing.
      • Make sure it is enabled.
      • Log out of macOS and log back in, then reopen Excel and check if Save and Save As are now available.
    2. File or location permissions / read-only behavior
If the workbook or folder is effectively read-only, Excel may prevent saving:
      • Try File > Save As to a different folder (for example, Desktop or Documents) and with a new file name.
      • If the problem only occurs in one folder or drive, move the workbook to another location and work from there. If saving works elsewhere, the original location likely has a permissions or file-system issue.
    3. File locked or opened by another user/process
If the workbook is opened from a shared location and locked by another user, editing and saving can be blocked:
      • If the file is on a shared drive or cloud location, ensure no one else has it open in the desktop version of Office.
      • If needed, use File > Save As to create a new copy and edit that copy.
    4. Excel not responding when using image-related Save As
If the issue appears when right-clicking an object or image and using Save as Picture, ensure Excel is updated to at least version 16.33 on Mac, where this specific issue was fixed.

If none of these steps restore Save and Save As, test with a brand-new blank workbook stored in a different folder. If that new file can be saved normally, the issue is with the original file or its location; if not, it points to activation/licensing or a broader Excel/macOS issue.
