Databricks: QUOTA_EXCEEDED: Cannot create 9 Privilege(s) in Metastore

I need to set up multiple Databricks environments for my team but it has not been possible because I am hitting this error:

QUOTA_EXCEEDED: Cannot create 9 Privilege(s) in Metastore 593fe1dc-d560-4877-959d-cc5f686ee7bc (estimated count: 65006, limit: 65000).

I attempted creating the workspace in multiple regions and the error remains, so this is probably an issue impacting all regions and is affecting multiple people.

I would really appreciate some help with this issue at we need to set up the Databricks to put our models in production.

it looks like you’ve run up against the Unity Catalog resource quota for “Privileges” in your metastore—your estimated count of ~65,006 privileges has exceeded the default limit of 65,000. Here’s what you can do:

Clean up unused privileges • Review your Unity Catalog permissions and remove any stale or unused grants. • You can script this via the Unity Catalog API (see “List and delete privileges” in the Monitor your usage docs).

Monitor your current usage • Use the Unity Catalog resource‐quotas APIs to get real-time counts of how many privileges (and other securable objects) you have in your metastore. • That will help you proactively manage quotas going forward.

Request a quota increase • If you legitimately need more than 65,000 privileges, contact your Azure Databricks account team • Provide your metastore ID and the new limit you require so they can process your request.

Hope that helps you get past the blocker—once you’re back under the quota (or have an approved increase), you’ll be able to spin up your workspaces as expected.
