Text format will not paste from chat to chat, including emojis

For the past month, when I copy text (and emojis) from a chat to another, the pasted result shows:

about 8 lines of space between each paragraph and any bold or italicized text is lost to regular text
emojis won't copy / paste

This is frustrating because I need to re-format the whole message, which can take ages for multiple different chats being used in classes. For the last decade or more using Teams or Skype I never encountered this issue. This problem occurs on my phone, tablet, laptop and PC when using Teams.

Is this happening to anyone else? Solutions? Is this a Teams glitch they're working on? Appreciated, G

Does this issue occur only when copying between chats, or does it also happen when pasting into other applications?
Could you check which version of Microsoft Teams are you currently using?
Have you tried using Microsoft Teams on the web, and if so, does the issue persist there?

In the meantime, you can try resetting Microsoft Teams by following these steps:

Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps, then type Microsoft Teams in the search box.
Locate the new Microsoft Teams app, click the More options (… ) button on the right, and select Advanced options.
Under the Reset section, click Repair and Reset.
Restart Microsoft Teams.

Thanks, Brian.

When I copy paste from a chat in Teams to another application, the issue persists, just as it does within Teams.

I have the most up-to-date version of Teams as of today.

The issue also persists on the web version of Teams ( all devices).

This issue does not seem to affect other Teams members I work with. They are all overseas.

When trying to Repair the app, the message 'We can't repair this app right now. Try again in a bit' (tried over a few hours).

To further troubleshoot this issue, could you please try creating a new Windows user profile and check whether the problem persists under the new profile?

To resolve this, Microsoft’s support team will need to step in. A technical support engineer can perform a remote session to investigate the situation verify the backend configurations, and run any necessary synchronization tools to resolve the problem. If the issue requires further attention, they can escalate it to a specialized team for deeper analysis.

Hi Henry, when I call the Microsoft toll-free number to speak with a support person, a message informs me support is only available online. I am not an administrator. I operate an online tutoring business as self-employed. This means I am a 'home' user.

How can I get direct support by phone with an expert? This issue is dragging on and it's so frustrating trying to connect with someone by phone. I've hired other private technicians to assist, but they've informed me this is absolutely an issue to be resolved by Microsoft. I live In British Columbia. There must be technicians in Vancouver or Victoria? Is there a number I can call?

Look for and select "Chat with a support agent in your web browser" or a similar callback option.

Explain your situation clearly, reference the error message you get.

This behavior matches a known issue with copy/paste and formatting in recent Teams builds rather than anything specific to the device. It is not caused by a setting that can be changed in the client.

From the available information, the only confirmed current workaround for copy/paste issues in Teams is to use the keyboard shortcut instead of the context menu when pasting:

Copy the formatted text and emojis as usual.
In the target chat, place the cursor in the compose box.
Use Ctrl + V (on Windows) to paste instead of right‑click → Paste or the Paste button.

If the problem persists across all devices and platforms, it indicates a service/client regression that must be fixed by Microsoft. In that case:

Report the issue from Teams via Help → Give feedback so it is associated with the tenant and client version.
Ask the organization’s IT admin to open a support ticket with Microsoft, including screenshots and exact Teams client versions where the behavior occurs.

Until Microsoft deploys a fix, using Ctrl + V where possible and manually re‑applying formatting are the only supported workarounds in the provided material.
