Animations don't work properly on PowerPoint Live in Teams.

Hi there - when I use PowerPoint Live in Teams, the animations don't work correctly. Any text that isn't animated is missing from each slide. I have used the same slide deck for a couple of years - the slides work perfectly well when presented outside Teams, or when I share the window rather than using PowerPoint Live. How can I solve this? I am using the l;atest version of Teams but the same thing happened on the previous version.

Hi @Catherine Baker,

Thank you for confirming those details.

Since the issue occurs in a live Teams meeting, attendees see the same missing content, and it affects all slides with animations, this points to an issue with how PowerPoint Live in Teams is rendering the deck, rather than a problem with PowerPoint itself or only your local display.

To resolve the issue, please follow these steps:

  1. Use screen/window sharing as the immediate workaround

For any upcoming meeting where you need the animations to display correctly, please use Share > Window or Share > Screen, then run the deck directly in PowerPoint slideshow mode.

  1. Clear the Teams cache
  • Close Teams completely.
  • Press Windows + R, then run:    %userprofile%\appdata\local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams
  • Delete the contents of the folder if present.
  • Restart Teams and test again.
  1. Test Teams on the web

Although you do not normally use Teams on the web, this is an important isolation test. If the same deck works correctly in Teams on the web, the issue is likely related to the desktop Teams client or cache path. If it fails in Teams web too, the issue is more likely with PowerPoint Live’s rendering service or with specific animation/content in the deck.

  • Open Teams on the web.
  • Start or join a test meeting.
  • Use PowerPoint Live with the same deck.
  • Ask another attendee or use a second device to confirm whether the missing non-animated text still occurs.
  1. Preload the PowerPoint Live session before presenting

Finishing edits before presenting so PowerPoint has time to sync changes, and starting the PowerPoint Live session before the meeting presentation begins so content can preload for a smoother experience.

    Hi @Catherine Baker,

I hope you are doing well.

Thank you for reaching out and for sharing those details about the issue with PowerPoint Live in Teams. To better understand the situation and provide the most accurate guidance, please share the following information:

    1. What operating system are you using (e.g., Windows, macOS)?
    2. Does the issue occurs when using Teams on the web?
    3. Does this issue happen during a live Teams meeting, or when playing back a recording of the meeting?
    4. Is the issue visible only on your end (as the presenter), or do attendees also report the same missing text and animation problems?
    5. Does this happen on all slides that contain animations, or only on specific ones?

Once I have this information, I'll be able to share accurate and targeted solutions for the issue.

Thank you again for your time and patience during the troubleshooting process. I'm looking forward to your response.

Animations and other rich content in PowerPoint Live depend on Teams being able to render slides with full graphics acceleration. When this is not available, content can be degraded or omitted, which matches the behavior described.

Use these steps to troubleshoot and improve animation behavior in PowerPoint Live:

    1. Check for the "Content not shown in optimal fidelity" warning
      • When starting PowerPoint Live, see if a banner appears saying "Content not shown in optimal fidelity."
      • If this appears, Teams is not rendering the presentation with optimal quality, which can affect animations, videos, and even static text.
    2. Ensure GPU hardware acceleration is enabled in Teams
      • In Teams, go to Settings > General.
      • Make sure Disable GPU hardware acceleration (requires restarting Teams) is not selected.
      • Restart Teams after changing this setting.
      • PowerPoint Live works best with GPU hardware acceleration on; if it was disabled, this can cause issues such as missing or low‑fidelity content.
    3. Keep Windows and graphics drivers up to date
      • Install the latest updates for the operating system.
      • Update graphics card drivers from the device manufacturer.
      • Out‑of‑date or unsupported graphics hardware can prevent Teams from rendering PowerPoint Live content correctly.
    4. If issues persist
      • If hardware is very old or underpowered, even with GPU acceleration enabled and drivers updated, PowerPoint Live may still not show all content in optimal fidelity. In that case, sharing the PowerPoint window (as already tested) is the more reliable workaround.

These steps target the known "Content not shown in optimal fidelity" condition that affects videos, animations, and other visual elements in PowerPoint Live.
