A family of Microsoft spreadsheet software with tools for analyzing, charting, and communicating data
Dear @Paul Argyropoulos,
Good day, and thank you for clearly explaining your issue. From my research, this is normal behavior on Excel for Mac. Unlike Windows, Excel for Mac (including Microsoft 365) does not have a File tab on the ribbon.
Look at the very top of your screen (the macOS menu bar), you will see:
Apple logo > Excel > File > Edit > View > etc.
All the options that would normally appear under the File tab in Windows Excel (such as New, Open, Save, Print, Share, etc.) can be accessed from the File menu in this top menu bar.
If you’re looking for Excel settings, you can use the following shortcut:
Press Command + , (Command key + comma) to open Preferences, which is the Mac equivalent of File > Options in Windows
For additional context, on macOS, every application already includes a standard File menu at the very top of the screen (next to the Apple logo). Microsoft follows Apple’s design guidelines for macOS, rather than replicating the Windows interface exactly. Having both a File menu (menu bar) and a File tab (ribbon) could be confusing, so this design approach has been consistently used for many years across Excel, Word, and PowerPoint on Mac.
I hope this helps clarify the difference in the interface. Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out, I’m always happy to help. Wishing you a wonderful day ahead!
